Our Story

The Horse & Jockey Hotel is lovingly run by the Egan family who, along with their team of loyal, dedicated and friendly staff, are here to ensure that your break with us is relaxing and enjoyable.

Bought in 1986, the Egan’s saw potential for the Horse & Jockey pub and embracing it’s long history as being a meeting point for people on the road, decided it would be the perfect location for a hotel. The first part of the hotel was developed in 2002 with 32 bedrooms. Along with this the Gift Horse Shop was opened, being operated by Dorothy Egan, who has a keen eye for beautiful and unique home interiors and gifts. The hugely successful shop, which has interiors, children’s gifts and jewellery has grown with its sister shop opened in Kilkenny City.

In 2009 an extension was built, adding 35 bedrooms, expanding the hotel to 67 bedrooms. With this there was the Leisure Centre, Gym, Hair Salon, Conference Centre and in house Bakery added too. Our 200 seater Derrynaflan theatre is the perfect place for everything from conferences, cookery demonstrations to concerts and product launches.

In 2017 the very successful Bakery Shop was opened where you can find freshly baked cakes and breads, baked daily at our in house bakery. You can also find a delicious selection of local and Irish Artisan products.

The Horse & Jockey Hotel has become the meeting point for many and is a popular destination for people due to the accessible location and popularity of the hotel. The Egan family proudly continue to run the hotel and as we look back at our story and history, we look forward to the future.
