Tipperary is home of some of the worlds most famous racehorses and the base for many of Irelands most experienced jockeys and trainers, the equestrian world is a serious business in these parts. In 2011 her majesty the Queen, Queen Elizabeth 11, visited Coolmore Stud during her historic visit to Tipperary.

Horseracing

The Horse & Jockey Hotel is in the privileged position of being in close proximity to three major National Hunt race-courses.

Thurles Racecourse:
A mecca for quality, action packed jump racing where it is very likely that you will see a future Cheltenham or Punchestown winner in action.

Hunting

Hunting with hounds is a tradition in Ireland that goes back to ancient times and features strongly in Celtic literature and legend, but never in our history has hunting been so popular. In twenty-first century Ireland as many as 300,000 people from every walk of life, between the years of 8 and 80, participate in some form of the sport.
Hunting season takes place from late October to early March. The Horse and Jockey is very fortunate to be surrounded by a choice of local hunts Premier Fox Hounds, South Tipperary Harriers, Suir Vale and Golden Vale’s.
